JR and Kara found me through a friend and we clicked right away. JR’s a photographer himself and wanted someone who could capture the aesthetics of film and the contrast of black and white in a photojournalistic style.
One thing JR left out in our initial email was that his fiancée, Kara, was a bit of a local celebrity. If you’re an Oakland A’s fan, you would recognize her popping up on the big screen in between innings as the in-game host. We did their engagement photos in an empty A’s stadium. Equally special was their wedding, surrounded by redwoods, strings of origami flowers, and little lights that just screamed whimsical.
Before I left, one of her bridesmaid came up and said she was getting married in Mexico, and that I had to be her photographer. I offered my congratulations, but she told she wasn’t engaged yet. Spoiler alert: I shot her wedding in Mexico about 18 months later.
