Like any wedding photographer, I met my clients, Tony and Suzanne, while rock climbing in Argentina. Right? Tony was this gentle giant lumbering his way up the rock wall while Suzanne flew up the same wall like gravity was turned off. A few years later, they asked if I would fly to New Zealand to shoot their wedding. I said yes, and immediately started planning a 2 month camper van trip around the island as well.
What I enjoy most about longer destination weddings is being able to spend time with the couple and their friends and family, as a part of the party. From seeing the aunts bake pies the day before to watching cricket with Suzanne’s dad, these are memories that stay with me. You also get to shoot things you normally wouldn’t, like the groomsmen heaving Tony up in the air, in a rugby scrum, like they do most weekends anyway.
